Iridescent sea glass glass is so rare in North Devon. Sometimes called Iris or Aurora glass, it is made by using a metallic compound when melting the sand, soda Ash and limestone to make glass. It was often used in decorative bowls, vases and stained glass windows. We were over the moon to find this beautiful piece just lying uncovered on our favourite North Devon sea glass beach. In fact, we have only ever found a couple of iridescent pieces before this one and they were too small to use for a ring.
